About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.

Research, Politics, Halloween, and Theater

I’ve kind of forgotten to write things here, so I have a lot to catch up on.  I’ve been having a hard time getting back into a steady work schedule, but I’m finally starting to feel better about it.  There’s … Continue reading

I’m back!

We just got back from France last night, and now I need a short vacation to recover from vacation =).  We really outdid ourselves as far as trying to see as much as possible goes, but it was worth it.  … Continue reading

I passed! And I’m going to France…tomorrow

My exam Monday morning apparently went very well (although it didn’t really seem like it at the time), and I passed!  I’m officially a PhD candidate.  With that whirlwind and preparing for my trip, I’ve been a little all over … Continue reading

Tomorrow!

With my exam now in just 18 short hours or so, it’s starting to feel really surreal.  Everything I’ve done this whole year has been, at least ostensibly, in preparation for this test, and it felt like it would never … Continue reading

In the middle of all this work and studying, Jon and I have been trying to plan a big trip for after my exam, and last night we bought plane tickets for France!  I’m so excited!  I wish I had … Continue reading

Production Mode

I’m getting to the point now that I have specific figures in mind that I want to make for my presentations and talk about, and I guess it’s nice to have specific goals.  My exam date has been set for … Continue reading

My 1-year anniversary in Pasadena

Yup, one year ago today I arrived here with my parents and a lot of luggage.  It still doesn’t really feel like that long, and I think I miss the east coast more than I realize. In other news, my … Continue reading

Yes, MS Word, what I was really trying to say was “Diagonal zing”

Why is the spell checker that comes with MS Word so retarded?  Is there a science vocabulary pack I can download or something?  I’m really tired of those squiggly red lines under perfectly legitimate words…and most of them aren’t even … Continue reading

St. Thomas Pictures!

The first day we took the ferry over to St. John to go to the beach.  It was gorgeous – almost like it wasn’t real. We went to Cinnamon Bay, which is the beach attached to the National Park campground … Continue reading

Back from a whirlwind

After a nightmare trip back from Boston last night, I finally got home at 2am after 6 days away on a semi-vacation.  The first half of it was a true vacation, spending 2 full days in St. Thomas with Shannon … Continue reading
