About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.

Second project in the works

One of my goals for the beginning of the new quarter was to find my second research project before the end of January, and it looks like I’ve got one!  I’ll be looking at data from Cassini (and *maybe* New … Continue reading

MESSENGER’s First Flyby

NASA’s MESSENGER mission made its first flyby of Mercury last weekend, and everything seems to have gone really well. It’s so cool! We haven’t been there since 1975, and Mariner 10 left more than half the surface unimaged. This flyby … Continue reading

Extra class time

Why do so many of my classes think it’s ok to just add in extra time for more lectures because we’re “behind” or the professor can’t organize the material? Ugh. It’s really not ok.

First day of class…

…was yesterday, and it was fine. We’ll see how the rest of my classes are today. I’m a little miffed that my continuum mechanics class is asking for extra classtime to catch up on lectures. I already have too much … Continue reading

Once more into the breach…

Ok, cheesy title for a blog post, but that’s a little like how I feel.  Classes start again on Monday, and I’ve got to get myself back into the work-all-the-time mode.  I had a good vacation, saw a lot of … Continue reading

Merry Christmas!

I have so much to read! And many more sweaters…which is for the best, since I overestimated the temperatures in Pasadena (not by that much, but enough…).

Home for Christmas

Got home last night, after driving up to NY with my sister and her husband.  My stay in Washington was fun – got to see my friends, Shannon and Brian, a couple of museums, Sweeney Todd the movie, and a … Continue reading

Done! For real this time!

I turned in my last final this morning, and I’m done with the fall quarter! Yay!  I still have research to do over the break, though, especially if we want to get an LPSC abstract in by January 8th…For now … Continue reading
