Planning is hard.

How much vacation is ok to take over the summer before my oral exams?  I’m taking 9 full days to go home and visit my family right after the term ends, and there’s a possibility of another trip sometime during the summer with my friend Shannon, just for a few days.  I think that’s ok.  The problem is that the summer is supposed to fix all of my problems, research-wise.  With classes finally over, I need to get most of the work on my projects done during the summer, and I’m worried about committing my time to trips, even though I also think it’s necessary to take a little time off.  Am I worrying too much?  Too little?  I feel like I need to worry about it now because June will be here before I know it, and then it will be too late…but at the same time I don’t feel like I have a lot of time to think about this stuff.  My head’s in Caltech-space all the time, and it takes real effort to get it out of there sometimes…

About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.
