I have a passport!

Finally, I got my act together and applied for a passport.  I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet, but I do want to plan a trip somewhere after my orals are over for a couple of weeks.  Where should I go?  It was kind of disconcerting to have the postal worker take my birth certificate and staple it to my application…but I just got it back in the mail too, so that’s fine.

I just learned on Wikipedia that Vladimir Nabokov was a synesthete, meaning he saw colors in his mind’s eye when looking or thinking about particular letters. A is red, S is yellow, that sort of thing.  Synesthesia just means that stimulating one sense triggers a response in a different sense, so there are lots of different kinds, and apparently lots of famous composers and artists were synesthetes.  I don’t know why that jumped out at me so much, but it is neat.

My sister’s getting a puppy soon, and I’m jealous.  I want one =)

About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.
