Office politics

With the last day of class this year approaching, changes for next year are already being planned.  One of them involves me moving out of my office into the office next door, which I’m not happy about, since I’ve already moved twice over the past 10 months, and I really like my spot now.  There’s only a small chance that the people in charge of office allotments will change their plan, though, and I’ve explained my point of view as much as I’m comfortable doing, so it’s out of my hands now.

On a different note, I helped organize a D-league intramural softball team for my department (the other half of our roster is from applied physics).  I only got two suggestions for a name, so I combined them into the Asteroid Pirates…sigh.  Games start the week I get back from home, which will be a nice change of pace once a week I think.  Hopefully it will be fun and not stressful and also not totally lame.  There’s a middle ground in there somewhere =)

The ‘random neat things’ tag is due to the planetary science seminar talk I saw yesterday.  Some people at UCLA are simulating planetary core convection (and soon magnetoconvection!) in the laboratory with a huge cool rotating spherical tank.  He had movies.  It was neat.  It reminded me of the flume lab I worked in the summer after my freshman year.

About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.
