December in Pasadena

…is very warm. Except it does get cold at night, and in the morning, and when it rains (which is more frequent than I was led to expect! But not as frequent as in Boston). Jon and I took my grandparents to the farmer’s market yesterday, by which they were suitably overwhelmed (it’s huge! and full of tomatoes in December..), and I spent most of the afternoon studying for my geology/geochem final.

I’ve gotten really tired of studying for it. I think soon I’ll stop and just read over my notes one more time. That’s one thing that is hard about take-home exams: you have to decide yourself when to take it based on how prepared you feel. It’s almost easier when the deadline is set for you, I think. Instead, I have to take responsibility for the timing of exams myself…and who wants that? I’m sticking to my plan and taking it tonight after I check into my hotel for the conference.

I’m a little nervous about all of the travel arrangements going smoothly, and the expenses being split up the right way, and getting reimbursed later. I also have a bunch of stuff to do today before I leave, so hopefully all of that goes well too. I need to drop off my bike at the shop for it’s one month tune-up, and pack, and print the rest of the stuff that I forgot to print yesterday at work, and pick up tiny soap at Walgreen’s, which just opened a block away from my apartment, so I won’t have to check a bag. The conference itself I’m pretty excited about. I’m hoping it’ll give me a few ideas about what I want to work on for my second project, and it’ll just be fun.

I have no idea if I’ll have internet access this week (perhaps I should have asked that..), so I probably won’t post again until later. Good luck with finals everyone!

About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.
