I’ve always kind of hated flip flops, and all other kinds of thong sandals, because they hurt my toes, are often uncomfortable, and make that horrible sound. Since moving here, however, I have to say, grudgingly, that they’re actually growing on me. Maybe I just never had the right pair before. I don’t want to get too used to them, because the sound they make still drives me crazy, and at work it feels inappropriate (although it’s not really…other girls wear them all the time), but at the moment they hurt my feet the least. I guess I’ll have to give in and admit that I’m joining the flip flop nation…it hurts a little, though.

I still hate flip flops — that little thing hurts my toes too! But there are lots of open toed sandals that have straps over the top of your foot to hold it on without the toe thing… and several that are cute, but have straps around the back of your foot so they stay on better and don’t make that funny flopping noise.
I recommend a trip to the JC Penny shoe department 🙂
I got my first of those for since childhood for the beach when visiting my parents in florida last year. It seemed liek they’d be useful, but whether it’s me never thinking of them or boston just not being a flip-floppy town, I’ve only used them a spare handful of times since then…
(when i was little, we just called them ‘thongs’ that led to confusion in college once or twice.)
Yeah, I have a pair of sandals with straps over the top and heel, and I like them but they cut my feet if I walk too quickly…and I walk quickly a lot. Clearly the solution is to buy more shoes =)
I think Boston is pretty flip-floppy…at least MIT is, and probably the other college campuses too. I used to see people walking around in them all the way through fall and into winter!
Have you tried Clarks? They’re pretty comfy and are soft enough to not cut my feet!
