Silly Excel + Lazy Weekend

Yesterday I started the third (unfairly assigned) problem set for Ge 101 (right after turning in the second one), which is due on Wednesday.  The third question is about the measurements made of the Vostok ice core that led to the Milankovitch cycle theory, and it wanted me to fourier transform the data in Excel — which can’t even handle complex numbers without installing the “Analysis TookPak (TM).”  I did not suffer through this whole quarter of Geophysical Data Analysis so I could drag an operation that takes one line in Matlab over 2048 cells in Excel…oh silly Excel…

In other news, the weekend is going well.  I had lunch with my grandparents and they dropped off my sewing machine.  Maybe I’ll make some curtains for Jon’s house sometime.  If I can find a fabric store.  And after I finish my tile mosaic project.

I also bought a book to read for fun, so now I’ll have something to do at the airport on Wednesday.  Something that’s not just work, I mean. Yay!  I’m still reading the Middleton plays, but SF is easier on my brain sometimes =)

About meg

I think planets are cool! I'm a new graduate student in Planetary Science at Caltech, and at the moment I'm interested in planetary geophysics of terrestrial planets and moons. I'm originally from Cortlandt Manor, NY, and I did my undergrad at MIT, where I got heavily involved in student theater - a hobby I hope to continue through grad school, time permitting... I also like to read sci-fi/fantasy novels, obsess about English history, and play frisbee.
